Black Tea and Green Tea

It is often said that Japanese people are astonished when they travel abroad and encounter green tea with sugar in it. However, in the ninth century Chinese people used to put spices, citrus peel, or salt in their tea, too. Putting milk in tea also has a long history, and even now for example Russian and Indian milk tea continues this tradition. On a global scale, adding something to tea is the mainstream, and sugar is one option.

Drinking tea straight could be described as a sophisticated approach focused on enjoying the flavour of the tea itself.
